Honda to recall Accord Crosstour due to defective airbag (U.S)

Honda will be calling back 3,336 Accord Crosstours due to a faulty front passenger-side airbag according to NHTSA.

"The front passenger airbag may not have been assembled according to correct specifications. In the event of a crash, the front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended and could place an unbelted child seated in the front passenger seat at greater risk of injury should the airbag deploy."

In other documentation, Honda said the problem rests with the airbag packing cloth cover.

"Deployment of the low-risk deployment flag will be delayed, resulting in improper performance," wrote Jay Joseph, the senior manager of Honda's product regulatory office. "Should the flap deploy improperly when an unbelted child is out of position in the front seat, the child may incur neck injuries."

The recall will begin on the 22nd September. Honda dealerships will look over and replace the passenger airbag unit if needed.

Owners can contact Honda at (800) 999-1009.

Amoritz Sport Cars GT DR7 Supercar Designed by Brazilian native Fernando Morita

Amoritz is the name of a new sport cars will launch its first product GT DR7. Brazil’s Amoritz GT DR7 Supercar Previewed In New Teaser. The Amoritz name would probably be unfamiliar in most automotive circles. That’s because it doesn’t hail from the U.S. or Europe, but rather it comes from Brazil.
Designed by Brazilian native Fernando Morita, the teaser image of the GT DR7 gives away traces of Lamborghini's Gallardo and Mazda's Furai concept on the exterior, as well as a cabin situated very far forward. Other details include a central driving position similar to that seen in the McLaren F1 from the 1990s, as well as different wheel sizes for the front and rear axles.
Amoritz Sport Cars GT DR7 Supercar
To match the extroverted looks, the GT DR7 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the 8,4-litre V10 that does service in the Dodge Viper. In addition to ridiculously-high power outputs, expect the final output of its V-10 to be somewhere beyond the 600 horsepower mark. The Amoritz Sport Cars GT DR7 Supercar Designed by Brazilian native Fernando Morita will also boast flex-fuel capability as Amoritz claims it can run on pure ethanol.
Amoritz is planning that production will be limited to 50 units, but more details will be revealed when the car is unveiled in October 2010 this year.

2010 Volvo XC90

2010 Volvo XC90

Volvo does things a little differently from other premium brands in the automotive world. For this Swedish manufacturer, safety and kid-friendliness are just as important as luxury amenities and driving performance, and in no vehicle is this more apparent than the Volvo XC90, a midsize seven-passenger SUV.

Innovative safety features aside, the XC90 is merely adequate relative to the premium midsize SUV competition. Zestier performance is available elsewhere, as are more cavernous cargo holds. With more and more modern competitors measuring up to Volvo's high safety standards, the aging XC90 isn't the slam dunk for families that Volvo products used to be. It remains capable, though, and arguably safer than ever thanks to some new tricks.

The Volvo XC90 is available in two versions: 3.2 and V8. Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the 3.2 is the entry-level model and carries a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated for 235 horsepower. Mileage suffers a bit on the XC90 V8, but the 311-hp 4.4-liter V8 provides strong acceleration, moving this 4,600-pound SUV to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard with the V8.

The 3.2 comes with five-passenger seating (with the third-row seat optional), while the V8 comes with seven-passenger seating. As this is a premium SUV, almost all major safety and convenience features are included, even on the base model. Major options include a rear entertainment system with dual screens, a DVD-based navigation system, a Dolby Pro Logic II surround-sound audio system and an interior air quality system, as well as an ultra-luxurious executive package for the V8 model.

Easily one of the safest SUVs on the market, the Volvo XC90 pioneered Roll Stability Control. This bit of technology uses a gyro sensor to identify every SUV owner's greatest fear, a potential rollover, and activates the stability control system to try to avert it. Another interesting feature is the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which monitors images from a pair of cameras mounted in the side mirrors and warns the driver via an indicator light when another vehicle moves into the XC90's blind spot. Of course, the XC90 also provides staples like side curtain airbag protection for all three rows, anti-whiplash seats and an emergency communications system. Volvo crash safety is legendary, and indeed, this midsize SUV has scored well in NHTSA and IIHS testing.

we've found that the XC90 drives just as you'd expect a safe, heavy Volvo SUV to drive. Ride quality is smooth and the cabin stays quiet, while handling is competent but not particularly sporty. Equipped with AWD, the XC90 makes an excellent snow vehicle but isn't intended for serious off-road romps. V8-powered models are considerably more satisfying to drive than six-cylinder XC90s.Despite its advancing age, the seven-passenger

Volvo XC90 is one of our top recommendations for families shopping for an SUV. Although its on-road performance is merely average as luxury SUVs go, the XC90 still offers a winning combination of safety, solidity and style.

2010 Volvo XC60

2010 Volvo XC60

The 2010 Volvo XC60 ranks 3 out of 8 Luxury Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 25 published reviews and test drives of the Volvo XC60, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.As Volvo's first entry into the luxury compact SUV segment, the XC60 combines stylish looks with powerful performance and innovative safety features. Its inexpensive price makes it a good value, but its high points are undermined by poor fuel economy (with its optional turbocharged engine) and some confusing electronics.A baby brother to the XC90, the all-new XC60 competes with the BMW X3, and shares a platform with the Land Rover LR2. It costs $3,000 to $5,000 less than both. In fact, the XC60’s $32,395 base price makes it the least expensive SUV in it the luxury compact class.

The XC60 is so well liked that it won Road & Travel Magazine's 2010 International Truck of the Year award.Aside from good value, the XC60 offers a dizzying number of advanced safety options. All trims come with Volvo's new City Safety system, which reduces low-speed impacts by automatically braking when it senses an impending accident at speeds under 18 mph. "Even though it's Volvo's first foray into this growing segment, the XC60 is well executed overall,” says Cars.com. “From its stylish design and upscale cabin to its sporty performance and numerous safety features, the XC60 impresses in all the right areas.

Its gas mileage, however, may be a sticking point for some."Indeed, less-than-average fuel economy is the XC60’s major drawback if you choose the optional turbocharged engine. The EPA rates it at 16/22 mpg city/highway. The only SUV in the class that does worse is the Land Rover LR2, which is rated at 15/22. However, the LR2 makes up for that poor economy with its excellent off-road skills.

The XC60 provides surprisingly spirited performance for a heavy SUV. "The 3-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine provides 281 horsepower to help this big crossover fly on the road like a much smaller vehicle," says the Detroit News. "Volvo included a stiff suspension to handle all of the power, but not so stiff it shakes you around like a rattle on Detroit's pothole-strewn streets. The ride was smooth and quiet, with the focus on luxury instead of sporty." However, a few reviewers say the engine could stand more horsepower. Poor fuel economy compared to its competition is also a low point.

The XC60 stands out from most SUVs with its especially sleek looks. "For people who associate Volvo with its old-school days -- boxy and boring, and I mean that in a good way -- the real surprise is the XC60's style," says the New York Times. "Too many crossover SUV's in this overpopulated field come off as U.F.O.'s: Unidentified Family Objects. But instead of inflicting another two-ton blob on the suburbs, Volvo has delivered a handsome standout.

The 2010 Volvo XC60's cabin is both luxurious and comfortable. "From Volvo's characteristic wafer-thin center stack to the contrasting materials throughout, this is the Swedish company's best interior design yet," writes Road and Track. "We especially enjoy the optional Nordic Light Oak inlay on the driver-canted center stack -- you can see (and feel) the grain of the wood. Rear-seat head- and legroom are excellent and the center seat is even manageable for trips." But while reviewers love the look and feel of the cabin, they complain about the confusing navigation system.

The Volvo XC60 has not yet been crash-tested by the federal government, but wins a "Top Safety Pick" designation from the insurance industry. Carrying on Volvo's reputation, it comes with plenty of safety features, including the innovative City Safety system. "Indeed, it wouldn't be a Volvo without a ton of safety equipment -- this is being called the safest car yet," says AutoWeek. "Volvo even went so far as to christen it ‘probably the safest car in the world.'"

The 2010 Volvo XC60 reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS). The XC60 comes with a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty.

BMW to increase testing on British roads (UK)

The UK purchases more M-Sport models
than any other country worldwide

BMW will be testing more of its future models on UK roads ahead of new car launches.

It is now going to put more work on UK testing earlier in a new models development programme.

'We have always recognised that UK roads have a unique surface, and especially, unusual cambers,' said a BMW spokesman. 'Now our engineers will spend more time in the UK to account for that.'

The UK is an important market for BMW, being only second to Germany in Europe. In the UK, the 3 Series accounts for 50% of total BMW sales with the M-Sport variants being popular.

New Proton Gen2 Specification

New Proton Gen2 Specification

This morning, while waiting at a red light crossroad in South Jakarta, there is a looks-like sport car that caught my eye. There are rear spoilers who in turn make it look sporty hatchback and it turns out it was a Proton car, a Malaysian car. Curious, I continued to watch and it became clear that it is a new Proton Gen2. Finally, I get information from Proton sales person that New Proton Gen2 indeed already present in Indonesia since mid of March 2010.

Proton Edar Indonesia (PEI) as sole distributor of Proton cars has released the new car of New Proton Gen2 (facelift) equipped with engine 1.6 liter Campro IAFM. The IAFM system improves the performance of torque on Campro engine and delivers sufficient torque for acceleration. The New Proton Gen2 with the IAFM Campro 1.6 produces 110 horsepower at 6,500rpm and 148Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Torque at an engine speed of 3,000rpm is 139Nm, while the previous Campro only delivered 128Nm of torque at that engine speed.

Proton has made further value-added changes to the facelift model which includes new interior trim, large cargo space with foldable rear seat and removable rear shelf trim; glove box, extra storage and compartments. The New Gen2 facelift is equipped with driver’s airbag. From exterior, other additional features of the Proton Gen2 facelift include new bumper and grille, front skirt, black headlamp bezel, side sill molding, alloy rims, rear skirt and rear spoiler.

Engine performance of the Proton Campro 1.6 IAFM engine produces the same peak torque and horsepower as the previous Campro, however, it has had its low to mid range torque boosted to eliminate the torque dip. The IAFM varies intake manifold length to suit different engine conditions – a short runner length for high revs and a long and narrower runner length for low revs.

The New Proton Gen2 is designed to enhance an engine’s torque curve that also helps to improve the combustion process; making the engine more fuel efficient. This is a development from the current Campro engine, which has rather relatively low torque at low to medium engine speeds. The new intake manifold is made of reinforced high thermal plastic which is lighter than the current Campro’s aluminum intake manifold.

Similar with other products of Proton cars such as Neo, Exora, Saga and Savvy, the New Proton Gen2 also has Lotus ride and handling technology from Lotus cars that applicable in under carriage system i.e.: suspension to more comfort and stable during drive the car.

On the road price for Jakarta area for Gen2 manual transmission is IDR 151,000,000 and automatic transmission is IDR 161,000,000. Gen2 Facelift comes in seven colors – solid red, solid white, genetic silver, tranquility black, passion blue, energy orange, and metal grey.

2010 Mazda Sport Cars Coupe Shinari Concept Car

Mazda launched the 2010 Shinari sports cars coupe at the Paris Motor Show in early October, a four door concept car that shows the new design. This design as well as to replace the Nagare design. Mazda Shinari Concept represents the profound connection of driver and machine and the beginning of Mazda's latest design theme 'KODO-Soul in Motion'. Shinari exhibits a functional aesthetic that will continue to evolve as Mazda continues to define its next generation of vehicles.
2010 Mazda Sport Cars Coupe Shinari Concept Car
The development of the Shinari Concept was actually a collaboration between three of Mazda’s design centers in Japan, Germany and the United States. Mazda also said it is working to improve the quality level of its interiors for future vehicles. With 2010 Mazda Sport Cars Coupe Shinari Concept Car as the first step, Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda's design division, aims to create original Mazda designs that will be recognized around the world. He summarizes his resolve in the following words:
"My goal is to create designs that people can point to proudly and say, 'This is a Mazda design'. There is no need for Mazda to build cars for people who are only concerned with 'style' and 'trends'. Whether working on sports cars or compact cars, I have always worked to create designs that evoke an emotional response in people and I hope to keep doing the same as I remain fully committed to develop designs for people who love and admire cars. It is my personal belief that the only way to create designs that fundamentally connect with people and to create designs they love, is if the people creating them are absolutely passionate about cars and are willing to make that passion a firm policy for design expression.
The Mazda Shinari is a pure design concept model of a four-door, four-seater sport cars coupe which perfectly expresses the 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design theme in a graceful and carefree form. All of Mazda Shinari Concept's body surfaces appear as if constantly undergoing transformation. There is no static shape to be found, as if the car is in perpetual motion. For instance the subtle control of the angle of the upper surface of the side sill, from the front to the rear, results in a form that suggests a flash of speed along the body of the car. Aerodynamic performance was a major priority for Mazda Shinari Concept, and the centre of the lower sections - on both the front and rear bumpers - are designed to optimize the flow of air along the underbody of the car.
2010 Mazda Sport Cars Coupe Shinari Concept Car
The principle of 'dedicated driving ergonomics' is further reflected in the car's next generation Human Machine Interface (HMI). The availability of smaller electronic components has allowed Mazda Shinari Concept's designers to create a floating HMI three-dimensional display; a design element that represents the very latest HMI technology . The system offers three distinct modes: 'Business, Pleasure and Sport'.
Yasushi Nakamuta, the chief designer who led the design of the third generation Mazda MX-5, was the first to begin the ideation of the Mazda Shinari Concept: "The challenge for us was to create an innovative new expression for energetic and powerful movement; something that we had never attempted before. We began by developing the design around the image of a predator, as it strikes at its prey, or the stabbing movement in kendo, Japanese fencing, to express the instant where accumulated force is released.
Ikuo Maeda say, "Further, I consider it vitally important to have an awareness of Japanese originality in designing cars for Mazda. This is not merely about incorporating traditional Japanese elements into car design. I believe in reflecting the Japanese spirit in car designs as part of a subconscious practice. So, while I consider where this may lead in the future, my plan is to create cars that will be instantly recognizable as a Mazda, even when viewed at a distance. My ultimate goal is to create a brand presence that car lovers around the world recognize as representing both Mazda originality and Japanese originality. Future Mazda's will move people physically and emotionally - this is 'KODO - Soul of Motion'."
