Hyundai HED-5 i-Mode : Luxury Cars

We first saw Hyundai's rolling CUV shapeship, the HED-5 i-Mode, back in Geneva, but today at the LA Auto Show is the first time the Korean automaker has shown the car in the States. New to the crossover is a 2.0L gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine that Hyundai plans to roll out in production machines shortly. The new Theta Turbo GDI engine puts out 286 horsepower, which is very impressive for such a small powerplant. Hyundai puts its direct injection and turbo technology to good effect and combines these new features with its Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) to allow for a 15-20 percent fuel economy increase compared with a standard 2.0L four-banger. Expect to see this new engine make its way into a production car sometime in 2010.

According to Hyundai, the HED-5 has been approved for production and a new six-seat production CUV will hit the market in 2010 that's inspired by its design. Of course, don't expect to see its far-out future-spec interior make it to production, but the GDI engine and general look of the concept is a lock.

The New 2010 Ford Fusion and Pictures

In fact, the 2010 Ford Fusion (and its rebadged brother, the Mercury Milan) are the last examples offered with Detroit Three nameplates. The Fusion's competition from Chrysler and General Motors are only available with automatic gearboxes, and while the import brands all offer the option to shift-it-yourself, few are actually purchased by stick-averse Americans.

So when Ford released its powertrain combinations for the 2010 Fusion, we were surprised to find that not only was a manual available on S and SE four-cylinder models, but the Blue Oval also upgraded ye olde five-speed cog-swapper to a six-speed unit. As fans of the three-pedal arrangement, we promptly requested a manual Fusion to see how it stacks up to the high expectations set by the V6-powered 2010 Fusion Sport we've already reviewed. read full at http://www.autoblog.com

Worlds First Cool Flying Car - Terrafugia

A cool car would be one that can also fly, yes? Well here it is! The world's first flying car.

The Terrafugia Transition was developed by former Nasa engineers. The car is powered by a 100bhp engine, used on both the ground and in the air. The company is based in Massachusetts. It can transform itself from a two-seater car on the road into a plane within, the makers say, 15 seconds.

Here is a video of it's test flight:

The manufacturers say the car will be able to fly up to 500 miles on a single tank of petrol.
It reportedly has a cruising speed of 115mph.

The car/plane is expected to go on sale to the public in about 18 months' time. Designer Car Dietrich says there are 40 orders in for the machine, which costs around £132,000 (approx $280,000). However, its makers insist that is still a good price for an aeroplane.

Potential Problems!
Car Insurance or Plane Insurance...and take-off locations - it is generally illegal to take off from a road!

A collection of cool car paint jobs from around the world.

Skip Car

Introducing a cool car called the skip car. A skip that can go 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds...not bad!!!

Cool Skip Car Video

WITH a £20,000 price tag and top speed of nearly 150mph, this is a skip with a difference.

In fact, the Skipcar, which was developed by Newport waste disposal company GD Environmental Services, is the fastest on earth after setting the first ever landspeed time for a skip.

The skipcar was built from a high-powered Subaru Impreza WRX Type R, and its vital statistics read like the most impressive top trump card in the pack.

A top speed of 147mph, 300 break horse power, 0- 60mph in 5.3 seconds and the handling of a rally car are enough to get most motoring enthusiasts excited.

And owner and driver James Norvill is celebrating after the four-wheel drive speed machine entered the record books on the weekend when it clocked 93mph on a 400m drag circuit in front of thousands of spectators.

GD Environmental managing director Mr Norvill, who took the wheel at the Flame and Thunder event at the Northampton-based Santa Pod circuit on Saturday, said he hoped the record was the first of many to come.

"It is great fun to drive and a great way to publicise the business. We've basically stripped a Subaru Impreza and used it with a standard eight-yard skip to create the skipcar.

"Hopefully we can try and go a bit faster in the future. Maybe we will fit some nitrous oxide to the back of it," he added.

The two-seater car was created in a month by a team of mechanics at a price of £20,000 after Mr Norvill purchased a second-hand Impreza. It weighs 1.1 tonnes and is made of lightweight lower gauge steel.

The company has a fleet of hundreds of skips, worth around £500 each, and provides waste management and drainage services to businesses around the UK. For more on the Skip Car, visit http://www.skipcar.co.uk
